Some hardware vendors just don't get it. They don't understand the GPL. It all started with Linksys, making available AccessPoint+'s and Routers based on the Linux 2.4.20 kernel. They've since released the source code for their router firmware on their website, which is a step up, but the fact is that they're actually supposed to supply the modified source code with the router or provide written offer to provide the source code to anyone that wants to rebuild it. Binary-only distribution of the Linux kernel is illegal, if one doesn't adhere to the GPL. Some vendors are still in complete violation of the GPL by not even making their sourcecode available at all. List of GPL Violators, so far:
