Please use the DNS under http://www.wug.za.net Under the Resources menu

I've just finished creating Jawug's (self maintainable) DNS system, and I'm happy to say that after an all-nighter it is now accessible under http://www.jawug.za.net/dns/

I have not been able to integrate forum logins, so you will have to register separately for this system, and confirm your email address.

Once registered, go and create a zone for your slice of the network. I called my zone "rodent.jawug.za.net"

Most of the knobs can be left at defaults, and I've dumbed down the interface quite a bit so that you can hopefully not break too much.

To create a dns record for your entire zone, enter e.g "rodent.jawug.za.net." (notice the fullstop at the end) and enter the IP that you use to hook up to Jawug, e.g. 172.16.10.66

This will be the "root" of your zone, and directly pingable as (e.g.) rodent.jawug.za.net

If you have any other IPs add them plainly, without specifying a domain name, or trailing fullstops. Example, I added another "A" record for myself, called "www" which will resolve to www.rodent.jawug.za.net. To do that, I simply entered "www" in the Name field, and added an IP in the IP field.

Reverse lookups are automatically generated for the entire 172.16.x.x subnet, as long as a matching in-addr-arpa zone is created by the admins. I've created in-addrs' for all the existing nets as per IPAllocations.

In order to use the DNS, point your equipment to 172.16.10.66 if you're on the WUG, or to 41.208.0.37 if you're on the internet.
